Celebrating World Teachers’ Day: Why Our Swim Instructors Love What They Do

Every year on 5th October, we celebrate World Teachers’ Day, a moment to recognise the incredible dedication, skill, and care that teachers bring to their work. At World of Swimming, our swim instructors aren’t just teaching a sport, they’re teaching a life-saving skill and shaping children’s confidence, safety, and future in the water.

With over 20 years of experience and thousands of swimmers across Hampshire, Dorset, Wiltshire and Oxfordshire, our mission is simple: to teach the world to swim. And behind that mission is a passionate team of instructors who make every splash count.

Teaching More Than Just Swimming

Our teachers don’t just teach strokes, they build confidence, encourage resilience, and open the door to a lifetime of water safety and enjoyment. Here’s what a few of them had to say about why they love their work:

Gill

World of Swimming at Godolphin School, Salisbury
"I enjoy being a swimming instructor because I know that I am helping children to learn a skill that is essential for life. It gives me a great deal of pleasure seeing children overcome their fears and difficulties, and watching them improve and gain in confidence."

Ana

World of Swimming at Hounsdown School, Totton
“For me, being a swimming instructor is so much more than just teaching strokes and techniques. It’s about helping each child grow in confidence, celebrating their progress, and watching them discover the joy of being in the water. Every smile, every little breakthrough, and every “I can do it!” moment makes this job so special. Teaching gives me the chance to make a difference, not only by building strong swimmers, but also by encouraging resilience, independence, and a love for learning. That’s why I truly enjoy what I do.”

Lydia

World of Swimming at Holiday Inn, Eastleigh
“I enjoy being a swimming teacher because it is such a rewarding job, I feel that all children should have the opportunity to learn to swim and enjoy the water but most of all I love seeing a nervous, unsure swimmer come into the water for the very first time and with my guidance watch them grow in confidence and progress over the weeks so that they feel safe and are able to say to me swimming is fun!!”

Bishop’s Waltham Team

World of Swimming at Bishop’s Waltham Junior School
"We enjoy being able to interact with children and building a bond to enable them to learn a life saving skill in a fun and safe environment. Watching a child's confidence and ability grow and seeing how proud they are of themselves is very rewarding.”

The Impact of a Great Swimming Teacher

Swimming is so much more than a hobby, it’s a skill that can save lives. Our teachers know that every lesson builds water confidence, safety awareness, and skills that extend far beyond the pool. Whether it’s a child’s first splash or an adult learning for the first time, our team is there to support every step of the journey.

At World of Swimming, we’re proud of our teachers, their passion, their dedication, and the difference they make in the lives of swimmers every single day.
