Train, Qualify, and Start a Career in Swimming
Location: Radley College
Minimum age: 16 years
Have you ever thought about becoming a swimming teacher but don’t yet hold the qualification?
We’re recruiting Trainee Swimming Teachers to join our team through a supported training pathway that takes you from qualification to paid teaching.
This role suits people who want structure, consistency, and progression. It is not a casual or short-term position.
Training Course (Mandatory)
Successful applicants will be enrolled on the Level 2 Swimming Teacher Qualification, delivered at Radley on:
- 30–31 March
- 9–11 April
All dates must be attended in full. Once qualified, you’ll be able to teach independently following shadowing and probation.
Required Availability (Non-Negotiable)
You must be available every week for:
- Monday: 3.30pm – 6.00pm
- Wednesday: 3.30pm – 6.00pm
- Saturday: 9.00am – 12.00pm
Lessons follow the school calendar. We do not run during Easter, summer holidays, or Christmas.

The Role
As a Trainee Swimming Teacher, you will:
- Complete your Level 2 qualification
- Shadow experienced teachers on poolside
- Learn to deliver safe, structured, engaging swimming lessons
- Progress into paid teaching once qualified and signed off
No previous teaching experience is required. You must be confident in the water, reliable, and willing to learn.
Pay and Progression
- Training and shadowing: £15 per hour
- Teaching rate after qualification and probation: £21 per hour
Progression is structured and supported, with ongoing development built into the role.

- Enjoy working with children
- Commit to all training dates
- Commit to the required weekly shifts
- Complete training, assessments, and probation

Training Agreement
As this role includes a funded professional qualification, successful applicants will be required to enter into a training agreement.
This confirms:
- A commitment to remain with us for an agreed period after qualification, or
- Repayment terms if you choose to leave early
Full details will be provided before training begins.
DBS and Memberships
- Enhanced DBS check funded by us
- You must join the DBS Update Service (£13 per year)
- STA membership must be maintained and renewed annually
